What I Chose to Wear for My Son's Graduation

Next week, my son is graduating from 8th grade.  I know what you are thinking... 8th grade is not a big deal, but when the school only goes up to 8th, it's a huge deal.  I really can't believe that I will have a child in High School next year!

Over the past few weeks, I have been on the search for the perfect dress.  I wanted something conservative, classic and lady-like, and I didn't want to spend too much money on it.  I also didn't want to wear anything that had a plunging neckline, a hemline that was too far above the knee or any of the bold patterns that are on trend right now.  With all that being said, here are a few of the dresses that I thought were appropriate.  If you scroll down, you will see the one I purchased...

And the one I bought was this Jacquard Sheath dress from Ann Taylor.  I think the style is classic, I love the coral color and it has one trendy element, which is the exposed zipper in the back.  I plan to wear it with my nude peep-toe pumps and a cute clutch.

If you are attending any graduation ceremonies this spring, what are you wearing?

6 Mother's Day Gift Ideas

As a Mom, I can tell you that I LOVE anything that my children make for me.  In my opinion, nothing beats a handmade gift!  With that being said, my husband and children still like to purchase something for me on Mother's Day.  I put together a list of 6 items that I think any Mom would love to receive.  The best news is that all of these items are priced under $200 and one item is only $1.99.

1.  Kate Spade New York Riviera Triple Strand Necklace   A beautiful statement necklace that can be dressed down with jeans and a t-shirt or worn with a pretty dress.

2.  Brahmin Small Cuff Bracelet Mai Tai La Scala Nothing says style like a great cuff with a pop of color.

3.  Tory Burch Thong Flip Flop Sandal - Thora 2  Cute sandals that can be worn to the beach as well as with a sundress out at night.

4.  Sisley Rose Mask Spoil your Mom with this incredible face mask or any skincare product that she loves.

5.  Christian Dior 5-Colour Shadow Are these shadows worth the splurge? Yes!  Plus the packaging is so gorgeous.

6.  Kirklands Love You More Sachet  One of my favorite sayings of all time.  These are great to throw in your Mom's drawers or closet.

What are you getting your Mom for Mother's Day?

Spring into Jumpsuits

As you've probably seen, one of the big trends this year is the jumpsuit.  Well, I jumped straight in and bought this Young, Fabulous and Broke Jumpsuit in black.  Why do I love this trend?  I love the fact that I have a whole outfit with one piece.  It's very comfortable and it can go from day to night very easily. Pair it with some wedges or heels, a long chain necklace, a cute clutch and you've got a great, sophisticated look!

Here are a few others I love...

Will you jump in?

Natural Makeup for Women over 40

Recently, I filmed a natural makeup tutorial for women over 40 on You Tube.  This is a very natural look that can be worn on an interview, to work, to a school event or even going out to dinner.  The greatest part of this look is that you can easily change it or update it by just changing your lip color.  For this tutorial, I used a Nars Lipstick called Niagra, which is one of my favorite colors this time of year.

Also, remember that our skin can change with the seasons, so make sure to check your foundation color and formula.  For this look, I started off with the Benefit Pore Fessional to reduce the appearance of any pores in my t-zone.  Then, I mixed the Urban Decay Naked and the Diorskin Nude Hydrating foundation which gives a beautiful dewey look (Dior) that stays all day (Urban Decay).

Here are many of the products I used to achieve the look:

Redken Styling Products are 50% Off!

If you use any Redken hair styling products, RUN (don't walk) to your local Ulta to stock up on items that are 50% off. As many of you know, my favorite hairspray of all times is the Redken Quick Dry 18 Finishing Hairspray, which retails for $16.00. Yesterday, I purchased 3 bottles for $7.99 each. Score!

Why are they on sale? Redken has redesigned the packaging on all of their styling products, and they want their newly packaged products to be in salons by March 2014. Many salons and other retailers, including Ulta, have marked these products down to make room for the newly packaged products. These products are not old or expired, they are simply in the old packaging. Now, go and stock up...

Pointed Toe Flats for Spring

I think the middle of March might be the hardest time to wear the right shoes. It's not yet time for sandals and flip-flops, but I'm tired of wearing boots! Luckily, with the pointed toe flat trend this year, I have many options in beautiful, bright colors and many different price points. I think these shoes will go well with everything from a t-shirt and boyfriend jeans, to skirts, shorts and everything in between.

Is Your Hair Weighing You Down?

If your hair has been looking dull and lifeless lately, you may want to continue reading because I am going to tell you about 3 tips that can bring your hair back to life.

1.  Use a Clarifying Shampoo - Over time, hair styling products can leave a residue on your hair, which weighs it down. Using a clarifying shampoo removes product build up and gives your hair a fresh start. For most people, I recommend using this type of shampoo about every other week, but you might need to adjust it based on how many hair products you use. Remember to rinse it out thoroughly and use a hydrating conditioner to lock in the moisture. My favorite clarifying shampoo is the Redken Hair Cleansing Cream.

2.  Use a Heat Protectant - Using heated hair styling tools such as a blow dryer, flat iron or curling iron can be very damaging to you hair, even causing split ends. Be sure to use a heat protectant before you use any hot tools to protect your hair from the heat. My favorite heat protectant is It's a Ten Miracle Leave-In Product.

3.  Adjust Your Diet - If your hair has lost its lustre, try eating foods that are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, which provide nourishment to the hair, making it strong and healthy. These fatty acids are found in many cold water fish (salmon) as well as avocados, seeds (pumpkin) and nuts (almonds).

When all else fails, get a haircut!  Ask your stylist to snip off the dead ends and add a few more layers to give your hair more bounce and movement.

New Blog Design & Layout

Happy Monday!

I am so excited to share the new design and layout of my blog with all of you. I found a wonderful graphic designer named Michelle at Shabby Creations who was able to incorporate elements from my old website (Mary at Graphix Station) and redesigned my blog. She was so easy to work with and I found her prices to be very fair. Best of all, I love the end result!

As many of you know, I also have a You Tube channel and I will continue to make videos. I try to upload a new video every Tuesday. Of course, some weeks, I don't get around to it and other weeks I may put up a few extra videos. I also want to start blogging more. I was talking with a group of my friends a few weeks ago, and they said they loved watching You Tube videos, but found it very time consuming - don't I know! They told me about Bloglovin' which is a quick and easy way to follow all of your favorite blogs.

If you are not familiar with Bloglovin', I think you will love it. You simply create an account, search for your favorite blogs and click Follow. Depending on your settings, each day or each week, you will receive an email showing the recent blog posts from everyone you follow. If you would like to follow my blog via Bloglovin', just click the "heart" icon which is located with my other social media icons on the right sidebar.  (See picture below.)

I would love to hear from you... What do you think of the new blog design? And what would you like to see on this blog?

What do I think about this product?
This is one of the BEST hair care products I have ever tried! This is one of the few sulfate-free shampoos that actually lathers in my hair, and you don't have to use a huge amount either. I also like the feel of my hair after I shampoo. It doesn't feel dry and thirsty; instead, it feels silky, smooth and manageable. Being very sensitive to fragrance in products, this does smell wonderful without being overbearing. This is an excellent shampoo for moisturizing dry hair.

Please Note: I purchased this product with my own money. This shampoo works well for me and my hair type. As with any product, it will work well for some people and others won't like it. Just for reference, I have thick, coarse, naturally curly hair.

How to Get Long & Full Lashes with 2 Drugstore Products

I do love wearing false lashes for special events, but applying them every day is just way too time consuming for me. In a You Tube video, I mentioned that I was using the Cover Girl (CC) Clump Crusher mascara. A viewer suggested that I try using the CC Clump Crusher as a primer.  What a brilliant idea!  I love it and have been trying this technique with many different mascaras (including L'oreal Voluminous Carbon Black) and have had great results with my thin, short lashes.

Here is a before and after picture:
